Documents and annotations

PageNib reads the PDF you choose so it can display and annotate it. PDF processing happens on your device. It does not upload PDFs or annotations to a PageNib server or an AI service.

Opening an arXiv document requests the PDF from arxiv.org. That website receives normal network request information, such as your IP address. PageNib does not control the privacy practices of arXiv or your browser.

When you click PageNib on a regular webpage, it reads the annotated content block to anchor your strokes. The exact page URL, an excerpt of the block text (up to 2,000 characters), a structural location, and annotation geometry/styles are stored locally in a separate extension database. Web content and annotations are not uploaded.

Drawing interactions

PageNib processes pointer coordinates while you draw or erase to create and edit annotation strokes. It does not record general browsing interactions or keystrokes for analytics.

Local storage

PageNib stores new annotation geometry and styles, document hashes, arXiv document identifiers (or a local-source label), update timestamps, and opening-mode preferences in your browser profile. PDF bytes are processed in memory; PageNib does not deliberately save complete source PDFs in its database. Normal browser caching may still occur.

Temporary laser pointer marks are not saved. Local diagnostic counters help troubleshoot rendering and saving; they are not automatically transmitted. The extension does not include analytics, advertising, account registration, or payment processing.

Your choices

You can download an annotated PDF or export an annotation backup. The eraser menu can clear the extension annotations for the current PDF or webpage. Web annotations currently have no export function. Removing the extension or clearing its storage can remove local annotations and settings; export important work first. Reopening the same PDF restores saved annotations when the corresponding browser storage is available.

Feedback

The feedback helper does not automatically read or attach PDF text, URLs, annotations, or browsing history. You choose what to write, copy, and send. Information you voluntarily send through a support channel is handled through that channel to respond to your request. Avoid sending private documents or sensitive information.

Permissions

PageNib uses storage for preferences, activeTab and scripting to act on the page after you click the extension, and arxiv.org access to load papers. Its declarative request rule redirects arXiv PDF navigation only when you select Automatic reader. It does not request persistent access to all websites.

Limited use

PageNib uses data only to provide its annotation features and respond to support requests. Its use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. User data is not sold, used for advertising, used for creditworthiness or lending decisions, or transferred for unrelated purposes.

This policy website

This page is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may process normal connection information when you visit it. This is separate from annotation data stored locally by the extension.
